Planting Seeds of Hope
On Wednesday evening during youth Bible study, the Children of Koinonia learned about “Planting Seeds”. The children prepared 12 hygiene kits to supply to disaster victims following a disaster. It was explained that there were many UMCOR warehouses where kits are stored along with flood bucket kits, etc., until they are needed. They learned how important it is to prepare the kits carefully, keeping in mind who would be given their kit.
The lesson also included learning more about UMCOR, what the acronym stands for and what they do. The children closed their eyes and were talked through a tornado destroying their home and having to get to a shelter with nothing but the clothes they have on. They learned how the kits they were making would be needed in the shelter. The children learned how their simple gift of hygiene products would quite possibly plant a seed of hope in whoever received it.
